Canada: Duck Seeks Police Assistance

After her eight ducklings fell through a grate into a Vancouver sewer, a panicked mother duck turned to a passing police officer, Ray Peterson, for assistance. The duck grabbed Officer Peterson's leg, and waddled around him, quacking. Once the duck had caught his attention, it waddled twenty metres up the road and lay on a grating, above a sewer drain. The duck repeated the performance after Peterson turned to leave. After checking the drain, and discovering the eight ducklings, the police organised a tow truck to remove the grate, and then rescued each of the ducklings, using a vegetable strainer. Following the rescue, the relieved mother duck led her brood to the safety of a nearby creek.

Kenya: Women Demand Satisfaction from Police

A group of unsatisfied Kenyan women stormed a police station in Kandara, north of Nairobi, in March, 2000, demanding that the officers either make love to them, or close illegal drinking holes that they claimed were causing impotence in their husbands. The women, members of 24 local Catholic churches, were quoted by one newspaper as stating, "Our men have turned into vegetables. They leave home early and come back intoxicated. There is nobody to meet the sexual needs of the wives." Reports did not include the police response.
